The minimum number of halogen downlights to qualify for this offer is 10, with no maximum number of lights because the subsidies are calculated on the total amount of energy saved. Currently, the offer targets the replacement of halogen downlights with LED downlights for a minimum cost of just $33. The cost of the LED lights and the fee for installation is heavily subsidised. The purpose of the offer is to help households replace old lights with new LED lights. The scheme was established in 2009 under the NSW Electrical Supply Act 1995. It cuts electricity and gas use by creating financial incentives for households and businesses to be more energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions in the process. The current application period for the Energy Saver Grants Program will now close 30 June 2022.Īlong with the Energy Saver Grants Program, the Waratah-Wynyard Council’s Community Activation Grants Program is also injecting funds of up to $2,000 into local community group projects.
“The Energy Saver Grants Program is an exciting opportunity for the Waratah-Wynyard Council to financially support community initiatives that align with the environmental aims of the Integrated Council Environmental Plan,” Waratah-Wynyard Council Mayor Robby Walsh said.Ĭouncil has already endorsed the allocation of funds of up to $10,000 to the Somerset Amateur Basketball Association for a 30kw solar panel system, the Wynyard Community Men’s Shed for a heating and lighting energy saving project, and Coast FM for a vehicle solar power system to enable outside broadcasting. It has also helped to build the capacity of community groups to work toward environmental sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the uptake of energy efficient technologies and improving awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency. With $50,000 originally available for this grant opportunity, Council has helped to improve the financial sustainability of community organisations by saving energy and reducing power bills. The Program offers non-for-profit community organisations in the Waratah-Wynyard municipality the opportunity to apply for a 50% co-contribution toward energy saving initiatives to help combat climate change. Applications for the Waratah-Wynyard Council’s Energy Saver Grants Program will now be extended until the end of the financial year.
